Kansas Harvest Progresses Amid Driest Week Of Year

A new report says Kansas farmers saw no measurable rain last week in what was the driest week of the year so far.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service said in its weekly update Monday that the dry conditions allowed farmers to harvest their row crops. Corn harvest is 53% done, while 16% of the soybeans have now been cut. Sunflower growers have brought in 9% of the crop, and the sorghum harvest is 5% complete.

Wheat growers have now seeded 23% of their 2012 crop. Northwest Kansas is leading the state with 75% of winter wheat in that region now planted.
