A Salina man was critically injured Friday night when a motorcycle he was riding skidded out of control and struck a house in central Salina.
Salina Police Sergeant Brent Rupert said Monday that at approximately 6:45 p.m. Friday, Krystopher Ruesch-Beem, 29, Salina, was southbound on a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle at a high rate of speed in the alley between 10th Street and 11th Street when he applied the brakes just north of Morrison Avenue. The motorcycle slid 145 feet from the alley and across Morrison Avenue, striking the south curb. It then struck the sidewalk wall before striking the front porch of the house at 511 Morrison Avenue, Rupert said.
Ruesch-Beem was transported to Salina Regional Health Center in critical condition and later was flown to Via Christi in Wichita, Rupert said. Ruesch-Beem was not wearing a helmet, he added.
According to Rupert, latticework and a railing on the porch were slightly damaged.
Rupert said that the investigation determined that a high rate of speed and alcohol contributed to the accident.
