Teen incident involving cellphone results in multiple charges

An incident between a teenage girl and her teenage boyfriend escalated over the weekend resulting in multiple charges for the boy.

Salina Police Sergeant David Villanueva said Monday that the boy and girl were together on the patio of her home in the 600 block of Upper Mill Heights at approximately 11:54 p.m. Saturday. The boy was upset that he lost his cellphone and took the girl’s iPhone8 and threw it on the patio, breaking it, Villanueva said.

The girl ran inside the house. The boy then broke a window and entered the home, however, he left when he was confronted by the girl’s father, Villanueva said.

At approximately 5:53 a.m. Sunday, the girl called police from near the intersection of Crawford and Marymount, saying she was being followed by a Ford F150 pickup that kept swerving toward her and tried to overtake her, Villanueva said.

Both vehicles continued west on Crawford, eventually pulling into the parking lot of the McDonald’s at Ohio and Crawford, Villanueva said. He added that police found the pickup abandoned on Faith Drive just south of McDonald’s. After a short chase, the boy was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal damage to property, one count of criminal trespass, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of interference with law enforcement, Villanueva said.

The cellphone was valued at $300 and the damage to the window at $500, he said.
