Driver injured in three-vehicle accident

A three-car accident on south Ohio late Tuesday afternoon sent one driver to the hospital.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Wednesday that the three cars were traveling south on Ohio when the first car, driven by Ronald Sullivan, 54, of Solomon, stopped to turn left in the 220 block of South Ohio, near the intersection of Ohio and Nottingham. A second car, driven by Delene Schoof, 65, of Salina, stopped behind Sullivan’s vehicle, while a third car, driven by 17-year-old McKenzie Winter, of Salina, did not stop, striking the back of Schoof’s car, Forrester said. The impact sent Schoof’s car into Sullivan’s car, he added. The accident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, he said.

Winter was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with a possible hip injury, Forrester said. She was cited for following too closely, he said.

Winter’s car, a 2004 Chevrolet Classic, sustained disabling front end damage and had to be towed from the scene, Forrester said. Schoof’s vehicle, a 2017 Ford Escort, sustained both front and rear-end damage, while Sullivan’s car, a 2007 Chrysler 300, sustained minor rear-end damage. Both Schoof’s and Sullivan’s vehicles were able to be driven from the scene, Forrester said.
