Salina Police have updated information they have about the recent neighborhood rummaging case.
On Thursday, Detective Sergeant David Villanueva said Salina Police were asking for the public’s assistance to identify the person or persons who rummaged through mailboxes and cars in a southeast Salina neighborhood. Villanueva said that 12 reports had come in from an area bounded by Wayne Avenue on the north, Ohio Street on the west, Magnolia Road on the south, and Saddlebrook Drive on the east.
Incidents included open mailboxes, mail taken from boxes and strewn about on the street, open doors on cars left unlocked, and trespassing through people’s yards, Villanueva said.
On Friday, Villanueva said that thanks to video provided to the department, police have adjusted the time frame to approximately 9:17 p.m.Tuesday-2:28 a.m. Wednesday. The original reported time frame was 11:24 p.m.Tuesday-2:28 a.m. Wednesday.
In the video, detectives noticed that headlights on a vehicle driving in the 2300 block of Shalimar Drive At approximately 9:17 p.m. Tuesday illuminated a thin male wearing a white t-shirt, dark shorts, and some sort of head covering, Villanueva said Friday. That man is believed to be the suspect in the rummaging case, he added.
Villanueva said police hope that the motorist will come forward with additional information about the suspect. Additionally, any other homeowners in the area who have information or surveillance video that might shed light on the incidents are asked to contact the Salina Police Detective Division at 785-826-7210, Villanueva said.
