A 47-year-old Salina man is in custody after leading law enforcement personnel on a chase through northeast Salina and Saline County on Saturday.
Salina Police Detective Sergeant David Villaneuva said Monday that at 6:38 p.m. on Saturday, a police officer noticed a dark green 1998 Cadillac DeVille driving erratically in the 800 block of East Iron. The vehicle rapidly accelerated around corners, failed to signal, and ran a stop sign, he said.
When the police officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, it accelerated to a high rate of speed and headed north on Ohio, weaving in and out of traffic, including oncoming traffic, Villanueva said.
With the officer in pursuit, the vehicle then turned east on Old Highway 40. When the vehicle reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour, the officer halted the pursuit for the safety of the public, Villanueva said.
The vehicle was later found near the intersection of Niles Road and Stimmel Road, northeast of Salina. Villanueva said that a 53-year-old Salina woman was found with the vehicle, but the driver had fled the scene. The woman told law enforcement personnel that she had been held against her will.
The driver, identified as Jason Kramer, 47, of Salina, was later found by a Saline County Sheriff’s deputy near the intersection of East Country Club Road and South Cunningham Road.
Additionally, a witness noticed that someone tossed a pouch from the vehicle in the 700 block of North Ohio. Villanueva said police were able to retrieve the pouch, which they believe contained narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
He said Kramer was arrested at 9 p.m. Sunday on the following charges.
- Kidnapping
- Felony flee and elude
- Possession of stimulants
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Reckless driving
- Driving on a suspended license
- Speeding
