The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a freeze warning for our area tonight. The freeze watch is no longer in effect. The good news is that by the end of the week, high temperatures are expected to be in the 60s.
A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
The freeze warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday and includes the following counties: Russell, Lincoln, Barton, Ellsworth, Saline, Rice, McPherson, Marion, Chase, Reno, Harvey, Butler, Greenwood, Kingman, Sedgwick, Harper, Sumner, and Cowley.
Temperatures are forecast to be in the lower 30s and are expected to be below freezing by early Sunday evening across central Kansas while much of south central and portions of southeast Kansas will experience a much shorter duration of below freezing temperatures.
Additionally, rain is expected to change to snow across portions of central Kansas today, especially along the Interstate 70 corridor. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible in this area.
