“Endless Fascinations,” an exhibit of pop culture-inspired work by Jordan Paul Schwartz will be on display in Salina Public Library’s Gallery 708 through November 23.
A reception for the artist is scheduled for 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, in conjunction with First Friday Night Live.
Schwartz, of Salina, creates mixed-media pieces that draw on movie and gaming culture. He infuses American and Japanese styles.
“Each time I began a new piece, I wanted to see how I could push myself this time. I never want to stay in a comfortable zone, as that would make me complacent and not desire to improve,” Schwartz said. “Every piece represented a new challenge to overcome, be that a new medium, reinterpreting the works of those who came before me, or hardest of all, creating my own original versions of established characters. Sometimes I failed, but each failure taught me what to avoid and what obstacles remained to overcome.”
Schwartz graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg with a bachelor’s degree in education and drawing. He currently teaches art to middle and high school students.
The public is welcome to view the exhibit during library hours — 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1-6 p.m. Sunday.
