Teacher, author, musician and improviser Joseph Vincelli will be in residency in Salina schools early next week as a part of Salina Arts and Humanities’ (SAH) Arts Infusion Program.
While in Salina, Vincelli also is scheduled to present “The Philosophy and Art of Creativity” at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the SPARK Artist Resource Exchange, 146 S. Santa Fe. The presentation is open to the public at no charge.
Vincelli has given master classes throughout the United States, including at Columbia University, on the topic of how to create and where it comes from within each individual. In his upcoming Salina session, Vincelli will take attendees on a course about why it is important to create and improvise often as well as how to practice creativity in all facets of life to nurture various art forms.
In addition, Vincelli will bring his sessions Geo-Dance and Rhythmic Vocabulary to local schools. A returning resident artist, Vincelli offers a highly dynamic program with curricular connections in math and language arts that relate directly to music and self-expression.
A longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, Vincelli has toured extensively throughout North America, with visits to Brazil, Venezuela, England, Italy, Australia and South Africa. In addition to frequent residencies through the SAH Arts Infusion program, he has a longstanding relationship with the Salina community as a past performer at the Smoky Hill River Festival.
