Saline County and the areas along Interstate 70 have now been added to the Blizzard Warning that was issued earlier Saturday for northern Kansas, according to the National Weather Service.
The Blizzard Warning is in effect from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, according to information from the National Weather Service in Wichita (NWSW). As of now, expect blizzard conditions with total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will lead to whiteout conditions, NWSW reports.
According to NWSW, a Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
Winter road conditions are accessible by dialing 5-1-1 from your mobile phone anywhere in Kansas; outside Kansas call 1-866-511-5368 (KDOT). Road conditions many also be viewed on the Kansas Department of Transportation web site at http://kandrive.org.
