If you’re heading east or southeast later Friday afternoon or evening, you might want to keep an eye on the sky.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita (NWSW), thunderstorms will move northeast across south central and southeast Kansas this evening and tonight. A few of those thunderstorms could severe, mainly across southeast Kansas. The main impacts will be quarter size hail, 60 mph wind gusts and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out in extreme southeast Kansas. Strong storms are possible elsewhere for areas east of the Kansas Turnpike, with dime-sized hail and winds to around 50 mph.
For Salina and the area, NWSW says that showers are likely, mainly after 4 p.m. Tonight, expect rain with a possible thunderstorm. Patchy fog is expected after midnight, with an east wind at 10 to 14 mph, becoming north-northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
