Salina man faces multiple charges after car hits light pole

A Salina man faces multiple charges after a vehicle he was driving struck a light pole at Fourth and Iron Friday evening.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Monday that officers came upon what appeared to be a disabled vehicle at Fourth and Iron shortly before 8 p.m. Friday. As they were checking the vehicle, a Union Pacific special agent who was working in the area at the time went over and told them he heard a loud bang and looked up to see the gray 2009 Nissan Altima spinning out of control, Forrester said. The special agent told police that he saw the driver climb over the console and out the passenger door, Forrester added.

Forrester said the loud bang was the car hitting a light pole, snapping it in half and causing power lines to fall down across the street.

The driver, who was at the scene of the accident, was identified as Bradley Knight, 43, of Salina, Forrester said.

Forrester said Knight’s charges included driving under the influence (if convicted it will be his fifth), driving while suspended, assault of a law enforcement officer, no proof of insurance, and improper driving on a laned road.

The Nissan had heavy front-end damage and had to be towed, Forrester said.
