KS treasurer: Check for unclaimed funds

The State of Kansas has millions in unclaimed property and cash, and State Treasurer Jake LaTurner wants to do something about that.

In time for the holidays, the Kansas Treasurer’s office has launched a new website to help Kansans determine whether they have unclaimed property and/or money: christmascash.ks.gov.

The website states that “depending on the complexity of your claim, we cannot guarantee you receive your funds prior to Christmas. Once your claim is approved by our unclaimed property specialists, you will receive a direct deposit within 3-5 business days or a mailed check within 2 weeks. Claims filed after December 15th are not guaranteed to arrive prior to Christmas.”

According to the website from July 1 to December 6, the state has returned $14,315,677.25. The average claim being paid is $320.57.

Once you locate unclaimed property/money on the site, you just have a few additional steps on the website to claim what belongs to you. It doesn’t take long and if you find unclaimed property/cash that belongs to you, it is worth the effort.
