
Oscar C. Harris, 95, of Salina, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2018. He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Pell City, Ala., to Elbert and Beulah Harris. He was united in marriage to Clara Howard on July 1, 1949, in Las Cruces, N.M.
Oscar served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, he and Clara moved their family to Salina where he worked and retired from Beech Aircraft after 18 years.
In Oscar’s spare time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, gardening, playing cards games, such as international joker and traveling with his wife, Clara. He assisted in planting numerous churches throughout his life and served as a deacon in many of them. He was most recently a longtime member of First Southern Baptist Church. His outgoing personality and contagious smile led him to never know a stranger and children always flocked to him.
Survivors include his wife, Clara, of the home; sons, DeWayne Harris (Jan), of Granbury, Texas, and Bruce Harris (Teri), of Wichita; sister, Ruth Lee, of Winter Haven, Fla.; grandchildren, Rachel Bryan (Phillip), Jennifer Finlay (Sean) and Elizabeth Bengtson (Justin); and great-grandchildren, Skylar, Layla, Lauryn, Noah and Ellie.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at First Southern Baptist Church, 2401 S. Ohio, Salina.
