A former Kansas police officer and school board member has pleaded no contest in federal court to attempting to entice a minor for illicit sex.
Federal prosecutors say 40-year-old William Brian Duncan entered his plea Monday and was immediately taken into custody.
Duncan was the Lansing, Kan., department’s “Officer of the Year” in 2008 and had served as a DARE officer and coordinator of the Safe Kids program.
Duncan was charged Jan. 4 after prosecutors say he chatted online multiple times with an undercover FBI agent posing as a 14-year-old boy and arranged a meeting with him in Kansas City, Mo., on Dec. 28.
Prosecutors say Duncan faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years without parole, with the possibility of life in prison and a $500,000 fine.
