UPDATED 7 p.m. Friday: Salina and the surrounding area are under a winter weather advisory until 6 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches are expected. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph from the north also are forecast. Temperatures will fall sharply later this evening and overnight to well below freezing. Plan on slippery roads and hazardous conditions.
It’s looking like we won’t get much snow with the upcoming storm, but we will get some frigid temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service office in Wichita, wind chills early Saturday morning will be in the single digits to near 0 in portions of central and south central Kansas.
Rain is expected to change to snow from northwest to southeast late Friday afternoon through Friday night across the region, and end from northwest to southeast Saturday morning. There remains some uncertainty for snow amounts, but accumulations should average around 1 inch area-wide with locally higher amounts possible in heavier snow bands.
Strong and gusty north winds will accompany the snow, which could drastically reduce visibilities at times in falling and blowing snow, supporting hazardous travel conditions.
