An abortion rights advocate who once worked for the late Dr. George Tiller says plans to open an abortion clinic in Wichita next year are still on track.
Julie Burkhart, founder of the Trust Women abortion rights political action committee, said Wednesday the group has raised roughly half of the $1 million needed to open the clinic. The group also has found a medical director. She says her attorney is reviewing new state regulations for clinics.
The new abortion clinic regulations take effect Nov. 14. A federal judge hearing a lawsuit filed by two unlicensed providers ordered the parties to analyze the differences between new and old regulations by Nov. 28.
Wichita has not had abortion clinic since Tiller was killed in 2009.
