Winter storm warning in effect; a wind chill advisory has been added

The National Weather Service now has issued a wind chill advisory for much of the state that already is facing a winter storm warning later Saturday evening.

For Saline County, the wind chill advisory will be in effect from noon Sunday through 9 a.m. Monday. The winter storm warning affecting our area is in effect from 8 p.m. Saturday to noon on Sunday.

Total snow accumulations of 5 to 7 inches and dangerous wind chills from -10 to -20 are expected for the Salina area.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Blowing and drifting snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

The CDC warns about hypothermia and frostbite.

Be sure to bring your pets inside. If you have to be outside, limit your time in the dangerously frigid weather and dress in numerous layers.

Be sure to keep an eye on this storm. If you have to travel on Saturday or Sunday, you can check road conditions at kandrive.org.
