Elderly Salina Couple Victim of Phone Scam

An elderly Salina couple fell victim to a phone scam Wednesday.

The couple was called on Wednesday from someone claiming to be in Spain with their grandson who was illegally fishing and had to pay a fine before he could leave the country.

A person claiming to be the grandson talked to the couple who believed it was the grandson. The couple then went the Dillon’s on Planet Ave and sent a Western Union money transfer for $2,400.

The couple later learned that their grandson was at his home in Kansas City . The total loss that includes the money transfer fee is $2,526.
