Salina man trapped after two-vehicle rollover Saturday night

A Salina couple was transported to Salina Regional Health Center after a two-vehicle accident in central Salina Saturday night.

Van Lett, 84, of Salina, was eastbound on Claflin Ave. shortly after 11 p.m. and had stopped at the stop sign at Roach St., but failed to see a 2018 Nissan Rogue northbound on Roach, and pulled out in front of it, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Monday. The Rogue was driven by Shikaiya Hutchens, 18, of Salina, he said. Both vehicles rolled with the Lincoln MKZ coming to rest on its top and the Rogue on its right side, Forrester said.

Lett was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel, Forrester said.

Both Lett and his passenger, Mary Lett, 80, of Salina, were transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of minor injuries, Forrester noted. Hutchens and an 11-year-old passenger were not injured, he added.

The Lincoln MKZ had extensive damage to the passenger side and had to be towed, while the Rogue had extensive damage on the front and driver side and had to be towed, Forrester said.

Van Lett was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way, Forrester said.
