A pickup stolen from a northeastern Saline County residence early Saturday morning was located in Jefferson County later in the weekend.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said Monday that deputies were sent to a residence in the 4800 block of East Campbell Road shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday after a 1997 Nissan Frontier pickup, valued at $3,500, was reported stolen from a garage on the property. Surveillance video indicated that the theft occurred at 3:12 a.m., he said.

The pickup was later located in Jefferson County, northeast of Topeka, after personnel in a convenience store there reported to authorities that someone there was acting suspicious, Soldan said. When a Jefferson County deputy attempted to make contact with the allegedly suspicious person, the person took off in the pickup with the deputy in pursuit, he said. The pickup was stopped after a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper performed a pit maneuver to force it off the road and Gaige Jackson, 27, of Oskaloosa, was arrested, Soldan added.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office website, Jackson was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 1:12 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of interference with a law enforcement officer.

Soldan said Saline County would be requesting charges of burglary and felony theft in the case of the stolen pickup.
