Kansas Wesleyan University has named Esteban Paredes, Jr. as the new head coach of the Esports program.
“Bringing back one of the students that founded the program as our head coach is the right move for our Esports program,” said Mike Hermann, vice president and director of athletics. “Esteban was a leader as a student member of the organization and has continued to contribute to our community through his work at Salina Regional Health Center following graduation. This position will allow him to continue to serve the IT needs of SRHC while providing leadership to our Esports program. Because he was such an outstanding representative as a student and has a clear vision for where to take the program, I’m confident he’ll be an excellent head coach.”
Paredes joins the Kansas Wesleyan team after graduating from KWU in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in forensic computing. He was also a founding member of the Kansas Wesleyan Esports team in 2015.
“I want to help my Alma Mater become known for their Esports program while developing a competitive team that is respected and recognized among the campus community,” Paredes said. “Also, I understand the importance of building a team-oriented e-Sports program is a viable need that helps attract and retain students in becoming alumni. I plan on creating a program that the institution would be proud of.”
Paredes has extensive knowledge of Overwatch, League of Legends, Hearthstone, and several other games. The first three are core components of Wesleyan’s gaming genres. While at KWU as a member of the Esports program, Paredes assisted with setting practice schedules and program promotion and recruiting.
Since graduation, Paredes has served as a Help Desk Administrator at Salina Regional Health Center.
Paredes will begin his duties as Esports coach immediately.
