Large water main break closes part of West Ash Street

A water main break on West Ash Street will keep the street closed for a while.

According to a news release from the City of Salina, a large water main broke under Ash Street between Seventh Street and Eighth Street. That section of Ash Street will remain closed to thru traffic. The release noted that “weather permitting, repairs are expected to be complete within one to two weeks.”

Access to the City-County Building will remain open, the release noted.

There’s no word from the city about how many customers, including an apartment building just south of the break, have been affected by this break. An update on the city’s Facebook page at 2:40 p.m. Friday noted that “Access to water and restrooms is now available.” Salina Post had been told Friday morning by a Saline County employee that personnel who work in the City-County Building were told this morning to use restroom facilities at the Salina Public Library, the Saline County Health Department, or the county’s senior services building.

Workers appear to be attempting to drain the hole in West Ash Street.

Attempts by Salina Post to reach someone with the City of Salina who could speak about the water main break have been unsuccessful.
