Helen Holston, 93, died peacefully on September 15, 2019 in Clay Center, Kansas. Helen Elizabeth Holston was born March 28, 1926 in Topeka,
Kansas, the daughter of Vey G. and Elsie Holston.
As a child, Helen’s family moved a great deal, following her father to many different job sites throughout the country.
She graduated from State Center High School in Iowa, valedictorian of her class.
Following graduation, the family moved to Abilene, Kansas, where Helen worked at banks in Abilene and Salina. She then attended the Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. It was here she met her lifelong friend and working companion, Lenore Yost. For more than 50 years, Helen and Lenore (H & L) were involved in Christian education and ministry throughout the state of Kansas.
Helen made her home on the Broughton road, where she and Lenore taught many children and adult Bible classes. She loved living in the country, where she spent her time reading, writing letters, working with figures, and being outdoors. She was a friend to many and was loved by all who knew her.
Survivors include sister-in-law, Delphine Holston of Abilene, Kansas cousins, Paul & Marilyn Barker of Aurora, Colorado and Merle and Anita Engelke of Topeka, Kansas, nieces and nephew, Karen Horn, Littleton, Colorado, Julie Nischan, Topeka, Kansas and Mike Holston, Helena, Montana. Helen also leaves behind a host of friends and relatives throughout Kansas and beyond.
She was preceded in death by her best friend, Lenore Yost, parents, Vey and Elsie Holston, and brother, Gene Holston.
A celebration of Life Service will be held for Helen Holston on Wednesday, September 18 at 1 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Clay Center.
Burial will be in the Broughton Cemetery.
Respect calls will be held Wednesday, September 18 from 11 AM service time at the Presbyterian Church.
