NWS: Freeze warnings still in effect, but temperatures not quite as cold

Freeze warnings are still posted for counties in our area, but it appears that the overnight low temperatures are not going to be as low as earlier forecast.

Earlier Thursday, the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast that low temperatures Thursday night into Friday morning would be in the teens for much of our area. Late Thursday afternoon, however, NWS revised its forecast to mid-20s to lower 30s. While those revised temperatures are an improvement, they still have the potential to be below freezing.

Here is the most recent information concerning the freeze warnings.

  • Ellsworth County
  • Lincoln County
  • Marion County (A freeze watch also has been issued for Marion County from Friday evening through Saturday morning.)
  • McPherson County
  • Saline County

Overnight lows are expected to fall into the upper 20s to around 30 degrees Thursday night into Friday morning. Sensitive vegetation may be killed or damaged if not protected or brought indoors.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 21 to 29 degrees are expected. Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

  • Clay County
