Halloween activities for kids of all ages

A variety of Halloween-related activities are available for children and adults in and near Salina this year.

Pumpkin PaZoola

Enjoy a day of fall fun at Rolling Hills Zoo, 625 North Hedville Road, Saturday with the zoo’s annual Pumpkin PaZoola. Geared to children, activities are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The zoo is offering half-priced admission for children ages 12 and under with a paid adult. The first 500 children wearing Halloween costumes will receive a free gift! Additionally, children ages 12 and under will receive a free pumpkin while supplies last.

The RHZ Facebook page noted that all prizes and activities are while supplies last and activities are subject to change without notice. Unless otherwise noted, all activities and games are included in your admission price. According to the RHZ Facebook page, the followings are Pumpkin PaZoola activities.

Zombies!

Perhaps you’ve been to haunted houses, but have you ever had to fight your way out of a zombie apocalypse?

“Zombie Paintball Expedition is unlike any other Haunted Attraction you’ve visited! A typical Haunted House has people jump out and scare you, but we put you in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse!” the expedition’s Facebook page noted.

Zombie Expedition, 7928 South Old Highway 81 at Assaria, is open weekends through Oct. 27. Go to the Zombie Expedition Facebook page or zombieexpedition.com to book you spot to fight zombies!

Mall-O-Ween

The Central Mall, 2259 South Ninth Street, is hosting Mall-O-Ween from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 19, according to its Facebook page. The event includes a costume contest, games, activities, and prizes. The cost is 50 cents per game/activity with all proceeds going to local non-profit organizations.

Salina Downtown Creepy Crawl

Formerly known as the Zombie Pub Crawl, the Salina Downtown Creepy Crawl encourages participants to walk, crawl,slither or slide to 10 of downtown’s kicking establishments from 4-8 p.m. on Oct. 19. According to information from Salina Downtown, the participating bars and restaurants will hold drink specials for pub crawlers only! Additionally, get expert face painting — free with wristband — at the northwest corner of Ash and Santa Fe starting at 3 p.m.

The cost of the Creepy Crawl is $15 in advance and $20 the day of the event. Go to salinadowntown.org for tickets. Participants must be 21 years of age or older.

2019 Community Halloween Party

Salina Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Community Halloween Party will take place on Oct. 26 from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Salina Fieldhouse, 140 North Fifth Street.

This free event will feature entertainment from the Flying Debris, a juggling and comedy variety show. Other activities include trick or treating, a costume contest with prizes, balloon artists, and carnival games.

Local youth oriented businesses and organizations that would like to host a table and pass out candy to children may register by calling (785) 309-5765.

Big BooBash

You’ve always come downtown for the candy, but this year, Salina Downtown has added
more fun, more treats, and more activities!! The event is schedule for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 26 and is to include food, games, pumpkin decorating, a pet costume contest sponsored by the Friends of the Animal Shelter, and much more!

A tentative schedule released by Salina Downtown includes the following.

10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.

Paranormal Class at Peaceful Body Wellness Retreat, followed by an investigation tour of five downtown haunted buildings. Registration is required at salinadowntown.com.

12:30-12:55 p.m.

Pet Costume Contest registration and entry ($5 per leashed pet) sponsored by Friends of the Salina Animal Shelter (all proceeds go to the Friends of the Salina Animal Shelter)

1 p.m.

Pet Costume Contest with more than $200 in prizes in the plaza just north of Ad Astra Books and Coffeehouse

1-4 p.m.

Cops and Costumes

The Salina Police Department is inviting community members to attend its annual Halloween event, Cops and Costumes, from 4:30-6 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The event includes the following.

Giveaways — candy and sticker badges
An opportunity to win Kenwood Cove day passes and AMC Theatres Salina movie passes
Meet and greet with police officers
Photo opportunities with police officers
Police vehicles on display

The event will take place in the front parking lot of the Salina Police Department, 255 North 10th Street. Parking will be available in the lot at 10th Street and Park Street.

Central Mall Safe Trick-or-Treating

According to information on the Central Mall’s Facebook page, the mall will also offer Safe Trick-or-Treating from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
