K-State women’s soccer visits Kansas on Friday night

MANHATTAN –K-State stays in the state of Kansas this week, as the Wildcats travel to Lawrence to face (23) Kansas on Friday at 7 p.m., at Rock Chalk Park.

  • Friday’s match will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The match will also be available for free at kstatesports.com.
  • The Wildcats will look for their first road win of the 2019 season and snap an eight-match Big 12 road skid.

 

Weekend in Review

  • K-State made program history in its last match, as the Wildcats secured their first Big 12 home win with a 2-1 victory over Iowa State on Oct. 11.
  • The Wildcats trailed the Cyclones, 1-0, at the half. Junior Brookelynn Entz received a pass from junior Maddie Souder and drove home a shot from 23 yards in the middle of the field to even the match at one in the 51st minute.
  • Entz, who earned the first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor in program history, played a through ball to senior Katie Cramer in the 64th minute. While collecting the ball for a possible shot, Cramer was dragged down just outside the six-yard box resulting in a penalty kick.
  • Entz calmly deposited the penalty kick in the frame, which eventually turned into the game-winning goal. The penalty kick goal was the third on Entz’s career and her second in the last three matches.
  • With her two goals on Friday night, Entz tied her own school record for goals in a match and set the school mark for goals in a Big 12 match. She reset the school record for points in a Big 12 match with four.
  • This season, Entz has registered three goals and ranks third on the team in goals scored. She paces the Wildcats in total points with 10.
  • Defensively, K-State held Iowa State to three shots on goal. The three shots on goal allowed by the Wildcats were the fewest the program has allowed in 23 matches against Big 12 opponents since K-State started play in 2016.
  • K-State, who had lost 18 straight Big 12 matches since its inaugural season in the league in 2017, recorded the second Big 12 win in program history. The record for most losses in Big 12 Conference play is 27 matches, held by Texas Tech from 2000-03.
  • The win also marked the first time (1-20-1) K-State overcame a halftime deficit and the first time (1-34-1) K-State overcame an opponent scoring the first goal of the match.

 

K-State vs. ranked opponents

  • Kansas State has played nine matches in its brief history against United Soccer Coaches ranked opponents.
  • The Wildcats are 0-9-0 against ranked opponents.
  • K-State has faced four opponents ranked among the top-10 in the United Soccer Coaches poll: (9, West Virginia, Sept. 29, 2017; 9, Texas, Oct. 15, 2017; 9, Santa Clara, Aug. 30, 2018; 7, BYU, Sept. 21, 2019).

 

Seniors Bag Goals

  • Entering the 2019 season, K-State had received three total goals from seniors with all three coming in the 2018 campaign.
  • This season, the Wildcats have scored 14 total goals with nine coming from seniors.
  • Katie Cramer and Laramie Hall are tied for the team lead with four goals each. Ashley Zane tallied the other goal from a senior this season.
  • Cramer and Hall hold the school record for goals in a season by a senior.

 

Defense Locks Up Cyclones

  • K-State clamped down on Iowa State on Oct. 11 to set a new program best for fewest shots on goal allowed in a Big 12 match.
  • The Wildcats allowed just three shots on goal to the Cyclones and held Iowa State to a shots on goal percentage of .231. The .231 shots on goal percentage was the lowest this season. It was the lowest shots on goal K-State has allowed since holding Tulsa to a .167 effort on Sept. 16, 2017.

 

Wichita Area Natives Scoring Goals

  • Through 66 matches in the program’s history, Kansas State has scored a total of 61 goals.
  • Of the 61 goals, 24 have been scored by players from the Wichita-area including current Wildcats: Katie Cramer (Goddard), Brookelynn Entz (Newton), Avery Green (Wichita) and Ashley Zane (Wichita).
  • In the last three seasons, Cramer, Entz and Zane have tallied at least one goal each.
  • This season, Cramer has scored a career-best four goals and is tied for the team lead. Entz has tallied three goals, while Zane hfound the back of the net once.

 

Better Late Than Never for K-State

  • Kansas State has established itself as a second half team during its first four seasons of action.
  • In total, Kansas State has scored 40 of its 61 total goals in the second half of matches.
  • In the 2019 season, K-State has scored eight of its 14 goals in the second half including five goals between the 46th and 60th minutes.
  • Senior Laramie Hall recorded the first second half goal of 2019 with a 58th minute tally against South Dakota State on September 1.
  • K-State has scored multiple goals in a second half twice this season. The Wildcats carded two against Gonzaga on September 12 and two against Iowa State on Oct. 11.
  • In 2018, K-State scored 13 total goals with nine coming in the second half or overtime. The Wildcats fired off 126 of their 236 total shots in the second half or overtime, while also registering 46 of the 83 corner kicks in the second half or overtime.

 

Entz Adds to Career Totals

  • Junior forward/midfielder Brookelynn Entz continues to build upon her impressive career resume at Kansas State.
  • Entz owns or is tied for a combined 16 career, single season or match records in program history.
  • She added to her career ledger with two goals against Iowa State on Oct. 11. Her four points against the Cyclones marked the most points scored by a K-State player in a Big 12 match.
  • For the season, Entz has recorded three goals and four assists to book 10 points on the year. Her 10 points are the second most for a season in her career.
  • In her career, Entz owns the school record for career goals (10), career assists (7). She owns the school record for career points with 27.
  • In 2018, the product of Newton, tallied six points on a pair of goals and two assists. She tied for the team lead in goals and was second on the team in assists and points.
