A popular restaurant was shot up early Friday morning.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Friday that police were sent to the 300 block of West Beloit Avenue at 12:48 a.m. Friday for the report of seven to eight gunshots fired. Officers responding to the area were not able to locate evidence of gunshots, he said.
Then at approximately 5 a.m. Friday, officers were sent to an alarm at Taqueria Fresnillo, 211 West Cloud Street, in the Kraft Manor Shopping Center, Forrester said. Upon arrival, officers observed that multiple windows at the restaurant had been shot out, he said. Surveillance from the restaurant showed that the windows had been shot just before 12:47 a.m. Friday, he added.
Forrester said police believe the alarm was triggered once the wind picked up and pieces of glass began falling out of the windows.
Investigators recovered eight shell casings just northeast of the restaurant, he said.
Four windows were destroyed and a glass door and drywall in the restaurant damaged, Forrester said. Additionally, stairs belonging to Kraft Manor also were damaged, he said. The total damage estimate was $5,000, Forrester said.
Police are hopeful that surveillance video from area businesses will provide evidence as to who fired the shots, he said.
