There aren’t a lot of teams that can claim success when stepping on Steve Fritz Field. Over the past seven seasons, Southeast of Saline has only lost five times on their home field. However, on Friday night Riley County escaped with a victory.
It was a game that was played withing one possession all night. Southeast of Saline’s biggest lead was eight points while Riley County’s biggest lead was seven point. You can never point at one play, but a beneficial score for the Falcons came with no time on the clock heading into halftime. With the Trojans leading 22-15, Riley County scored on a passing touchdown from the 13 yard line with no time remaining. After the Falcons failed on the 2-point conversion, SES would take a lead into the break of 22-21.
That score would end up valuable for the visitors as the Falcons outscored Southeast 12-7 in the second half to secure a 33-29 victory.
With the win, Riley County (5-2) takes a commanding lead in Class 2A, district 4. Southeast of Saline (5-2) falls to 2-2 in district play and will head to Council Grove (2-5) next Friday.
