On Oct. 18, 2019, between 4:45 a.m. and 10 a.m., the Saline County Sheriff’s Office responded to two calls which are possibly related.
Sometime between Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Oct. 18, unknown suspects stole a black 2011 Ford F-150 Lariat 4×4 from a residence in the 6000 block of South Kipp Road. The truck was described as having chrome running boards, a spray-in bed liner, and a leveling kit. The rear sliding window reportedly had pre-existing damage to it. The keys to the truck had been left in the center console of a different vehicle on the property. The truck was valued at $11,000.
Just before 5 a.m. on Oct. 18, deputies responded to the report of a vehicle burglary in progress in the 5000 block of South Old Highway 81. Residents were alerted that someone had come onto their property. The homeowner went outside and observed a suspect in his pickup. When confronted, the suspect ran to a waiting pickup and jumped into the bed, and the pickup fled the scene. As the suspect pickup fled, it struck a small evergreen tree, so the suspect pickup may have sustained some damage. The pickup was described as dark in color. The suspect stole approximately $3 in change from the victim’s vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating these cases as possibly being related. Total loss between the two crimes is estimated to be just over $11,000.
