BROOKVILLE — A Saturday night fire in Brookville destroyed a garage and a vehicle parked in it.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said Monday that firefighters from Rural Fire District No. 3 and deputies were called to the 300 block of West Anderson in Brookville at 10:34 p.m. Saturday for the report of a fire in a detached garage.

Damage to the garage, which was owned by Beverly Francis, 69, was estimated at $20,000, he said. A 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, valued at $6,000, that was parked in the garage was destroyed, Soldan said. Loss of other items inside the garage, including two jukeboxes, a television, and a stereo, was estimated at a total of $2,200, he said.

Soldan said deputies were told that someone had been working in the garage earlier in the day and that a space heater had been running, but it was thought that the space heater had been turned off.
