A Kansas City, Kan., police officer is on leave after he shot and killed a suspect early Sunday.
Police say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. when the officer responded to a report of a suspicious person on foot in a mostly rural part of the city. The department says in a news release that the suspect and officer struggled before the officer opened fire.
The suspect’s name and other details were withheld Sunday while relatives were notified and the department began investigating. Police said the officer, a 15-year veteran, was unhurt.
