OPINION: So, Mr. President, How Many Solyndra’s Are Out There?

Submitted By Morris Hardy

Our country desperately needs us, the sensible voting public, to do the right thing as a whole for once. This would be a “Tell me something I didn’t know..” moment.

Having said that, just how many Solyndra’s does this current president have the brass to take credit for? Stupid question, I know. But we cannot afford to be ignorant or susceptible to be overwhelmed, or should I say ‘underwhelmed’, with the shear numbers of incompetent decisions that this administration continues to produce.

Another Friday document dump has added fuel to the fire, so to speak. Obama knew Solyndra was going to lay off employees and file bankruptcy all the while he was dumping taxpayer money on them.

A White House aide wrote on Oct. 27, 2010, to the then-director of energy and climate change policy, “Here’s the deal — Solyndra is going to announce they are laying off 200 of their 1200 workers. No es bueno,” aide Heather Zichal wrote.”

That was just days before the mid term elections wasn’t it? Now I don’t begrudge Democrats for keeping bad news quiet, but this is way beyond that. And surprisingly CBS news found there are almost a dozen “Green” companies Obama spent our money on and that only one is even still in business.

I am all for renewable energy and green jobs if they can be self-sustaining. For instance, wind energy is not at the moment, but it does appear that it is evolving as the technology improves the viability. However ethanol is not my choice. While, in the short term, profit on corn may be lucrative in one respect it has affected the cost and availability of food on the world market while ethanol continues to destroy our cars with sub standard efficiency.

In Solyndra’s case, every one knew that competing with China on solar panels was a disaster waiting to happen. Every one it seems, except the Obama administration.

From CBS, ”CBS News counted 12 clean energy companies that are having trouble after collectively being approved for more than $6.5 billion in federal assistance. Five have filed for bankruptcy: The junk bond-rated Beacon, Evergreen Solar, SpectraWatt, AES’ subsidiary Eastern Energy and Solyndra.”

Now, of course, I can only speculate on what motivated the expenditure of $6.5 billion dollars. But if one ‘follows the money’ there is one common thread to all those companies. They were, in fact, donors to the Obama election campaign. I’m not suggesting anything illegal was done. Donate to whomever you wish for whatever reason you want. Just don’t expect the rest of us, Americans, to stand by in idle ignorance and pretend that this will be the ‘new norm’ like three dollar a gallon gasoline is.
