After 911, I wrote an essay titled “The Fall of A Nation.” It told how the constitution could become the reason the United States of America could be changed from a nation of freedom, to one of limited freedom, because of the interpretation and the age of the document.
You must see how a 200 plus year old document can be questioned for it’s relevance. There is a lot of talk about how the Prez and a member of the Supreme Court recently bad mouthed the constitution. The Prez saying it got in the way of his being able to accomplish what he wanted for the country (No matter that he ignored it in so many of his actions, without media or public outcry or penalty). The Supreme Court member telling a nation working on their constitution, that it would not be to their benefit to use our constitution as a guide.
Talk radio has made it a hot topic in order to get the voters to oust the Prez in the upcoming election. It is a weak argument. Today’s voter between the ages of 18 and 59 pretty much agree the Constitution is outdated. It is an 18th century document, not relevant to the 21st century.
That is probably what the Supreme Court Justice was implying when she made her comment. I would not be surprised if the Prez has been circumventing the constitution, when and where he can, for the same reason. Maybe it should be looked at, and amended. Ah, therein lies the rub. It just takes too long to amend the document.
Do not get me wrong, I think the Constitution is a great work. I think, if interpreted properly, it can withstand any challenge, but we live in a time when judges seem to be making the law, rather than interpreting the law.
During this election, the Prez will be charged with violating the constitution, and rightfully so, in so many ways. The media and the congress do not seem concerned, therefore, it is up the voter to decide if he should be reelected and allowed to bypass the constitution when it gets in the way of his proposals.
So, it seems the game plan is, either he goes, or the constitution goes. Your decision.
