Fire destroyed the car of a rural Salina man Tuesday evening.

94-year-old Cleo Wessling who lives in the 13 hundred block of N. Marymount Road, says he got into his 1999 Buick Park Avenue and after starting it he heard popping noises and the car caught fire in the engine compartment.

Saline County Rural Fire District #5 was called and put the fire out. The car is a total loss.

Value of the car placed at $4,500 .
