Salina Woman Loses More Than $2,000 In Internet Scam

A Salina woman has fallen victim to an internet scam.

The 34-year-old woman says she was trying to sell a wedding dress on E-Bay for $500, when on March 5th the woman received a check for $2,950 from a man who had the winning bid for the dress.

In an e-mail message the man told the woman to cash the check and send the excess money to another person out of the country.

The woman later learned the check that appeared to come from a legitimate business in Watertown New York was phony.  She lost $2,450 dollars including $176 dollars for wiring money as she was told to do.

The woman still has her dress because she was waiting to send it until after the check had cleared.

Salina Police ask that everyone be suspicious of sending someone more money than the sale price and especially so if there is a request to wire money to another location.
