NOTE: Sometimes to make a point, one uses examples that are not necessarily true, but the premise has been around in the form of a myth, so one takes liberties and presents it as fact. Such will be the case here.

Over the past decade, we have been transformed into a nation of ostriches. More and more we bury our heads in the sand to ignore or escape things that make us afraid or that we don’t understand. I am not sure all Americans can identify these ostriches, so I am here to give you a profile. (I know that is a bad word, and I may be in trouble with the political correct police, but I’ll take the chance because I think it is important you become aware of the ostriches in our midst.)

First there is The Political Ostrich. He/she is indigenous to areas around federal,state, and city buildings. Although ostriches usually travel alone or in pairs, this species forms packs like their namesakes do during mating season, but with this group it usually happens during elections. Their “head in the sand” episodes usually occur when people ask “why” or “show me how” or “who’s gonna pay for this?”. This group believes there is safety in numbers so they follow the leaders policies regardless of the fact many are against the constitution. They never question illegal appointments, or the lack of discharging one’s duty to uphold or follow the laws of the land. They simply put their heads in the sand.

The Media Ostrich. This is the most dangerous of all since so many voters believe everything the talking heads say (in or out of the sand.) The status of the fourth estate has sunk so low as to make them insignificant. Once a part of the system of checks and balances and the conscious of the executive and judicial branches of government, they have become the spokesman of the administration. As such, they bury their head in the sand every time the administration ignores the constitution,lies to the public, and launders money through useless investments and capitalist cronyism.

Which brings us to The Voter Ostrich. This by far is the weakest of the group. They do travel in pairs or as loners. In spite of their acute hearing and eyesight, they fall prey to the other Ostriches more so than their predators, who in this case would be their allies if the other Ostriches had not convinced them their friends are their enemies. Their “head in the sand” moments occur whenever they are told the truth. They do not believe their fellow Ostriches are lying about the fate of their children and grandchildren’s future because their needs are being taken care of by the group, so it will be the same forever for everyone.

If we keep hearing the same lies over and over, they will become truths in our mind and so, in the end, we may all become Ostriches.
