Have you ever heard sirens and wondered what was happening? Ever heard about a breaking story, but there’s nothing available online yet?
Well, now you’ll know and you’ll be able to see WHERE it happened.
POSTIGE is our newest tool in the effort to create better local news and we’re excited for Salina to be the first city to test it out.
POSTIGE is a mobile web app, which means it was built for viewing on mobile devices of all types but doesn’t require a download from the app store. Naturally, you can still check it out on your computer, although you may notice the layout is a little strange. In the future we may offer a different view for desktop users, but considering that the largest growing segment of visitors, across all 8 of our Post sites, are on a mobile device (41% of overall visitors), we’re starting with the mobile option first.
When viewing POSTIGE, you’ll see icons on the map where something is happening and when you click on the icon, you’ll see a brief description of what ocurred, along with a photo. Postige will cover everything from what’s happening on the police scanner, location of severe weather threats, to the location of garage sales and open houses on Sunday.
Considering this is all about the most relevant, breaking news, everything resets the next day and old stories will fall off. Also, in an effort to maintain privacy, most stories will only show a block number, not an actual address.
Again, we’re still testing things out, so don’t be surprised if there are events that are missing from the map or if the stories aren’t updated immediately.
Once we have our system working as intended, we’ll announce it and you’ll begin seeing other cities become available. Until then, enjoy POSTIGE.
