The Salina Falcons (15-4) saw two big leads in each of the double header games against KC Millhouse wither away, but were still able to earn the split, holding on to win Game One 13-10 before losing Game Two 12-11.
Salina Falcons saw themselves up in Game One 11-3 heading into the fourth inning after erupting for nine runs in the bottom half of the third, but a seven run fourth inning by Millhouse got them right back in the game putting them down by just one after trailing by eight just the inning before.
Salina though added insurance runs the next inning with a double by Chance Thomason putting himself and Mason Brightbill in scoring position. They would both later score on singles by Jackson Rolfs and Dalton Dooley making it 13-10. Pitcher Keenan Breen came in the fifth inning in relief and pitched two flawless innings giving up no hits, striking out four and walking two securing the win for the Falcons.
Game Two looked as if the Falcons would come away with a sweep leading 8-3 after two innings, but six errors which led to two runs and missed opportunities lead to their defeat.
Third inning was dismal for the Falcons, Daniel O’Brien came in to relieve Matt Reyna, but struggled from the first pitch giving up five hits that accounted for eight KC Millhouse runs and they quickly jumped up 11-8.
O’Brien though after the rough start in his first innings would last the rest of the game only giving up two more hits and striking out two, holding Millhouse in a rut giving the Falcons chances to chip away, but the Falcons bats stalled twice with runners at the corners with one out and twice with bases loaded with one out, including the last inning of the game. With all the chances the Falcons only squandered out three runs falling 12-11 in the nightcap.
Falcons still have one more double header before the Grand Slam Tournament in Salina. Salina will travel to Junction City for two games at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
