Fireworks Cause of Stubble Field Fire Wednesday Night

Fireworks are the cause of a wheat stubble field fire late Wednesday night just southeast of Salina.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski says rural fire units responded to the fire just south of the Holmes Road/Magnolia Road intersection about 10:45 pm.

The Sheriff says a deputy found debris of discharged fireworks in the road on Holmes. The fire was put out quickly.

Other than a portion of the field that was burnt, there was no damage.

Kochanowski says deputies will be actively patrolling the county through the Fourth of July holiday, and if people are using fireworks where they do not have permission, or discharging them in the road, will be cited and appear in district court.
