SALINA – Tickets are now available for one of the area’s more beloved and longer running Christmas celebrations: Kansas Wesleyan University’s Christmas by Candlelight!
In order to accommodate the large number of requests, two services will again be offered this year. Christmas by Candlelight is scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. December 12, 2010, in Sams Chapel.
“Wake, Awake” is the theme for this year’s Christmas by Candlelight, which will feature the KWU Philharmonic Choir and KWU Chamber Orchestra, as well as local high school musicians. Choirs from Salina High School Central and Salina High School South will perform during the 3 p.m. service, while choirs from Sacred Heart High School and Southeast of Saline High School will perform at the 7:30 p.m. service.
“This year’s theme, ‘Wake, Awake,’ symbolizes the new beginning and renewed commitments to our Lord. Christmas is the time to reflect on the past and refresh ourselves for a new year,” said Ken Hakoda, KWU Department of Music Chair. “I want to provide devotional experiences to those who attend this service so they think about the gift from our Lord and wake up for the exciting years ahead of us.”
Tickets may be requested by filling out the form on the KWU website. Go to www.kwu.edu and click on the Christmas by Candlelight link to access the form.
Additionally, a limited number of paper forms will be available in the KWU Student Activities Center on the counter south of Yotee’s, the University bookstore. Please return the paper forms to the address listed on the form or, if filled out at the Student Activities Center, forms may be placed in campus mail at the University post office, which also is located in the Student Activities Center.
In an effort to make entry into Christmas by Candlelight more easily accessible, all seats will be assigned this year. Because of the seating assignments, the doors to Sams Chapel will open 45 minutes prior to each service. Persons requesting tickets may designate either floor or balcony, but specific seats may not be requested. While KWU personnel will make every effort to accommodate both floor and balcony requests, once one of those areas fills up, all remaining ticket requests will be filled with whatever seats are still available.
