Saline County rural fire districts were kept busy during the 4th of July holiday responding to reports of fires started (for the most part) by fireworks.

A home was damaged in the 300 block of W. Humbarger Road when a fireworks display tipped over and shot fireworks into some evergreen trees that caught fire. Damage to the home of Phyllis Anderson was limited to vinyl siding. No damage estimate was available The fire was on July 3rd at 9:30pm. Cited for unlawful discharge of fireworks were Crystal Griem, and Matthew Rose.

Fireworks were also the reason for a fire that destroyed 50 round bales of alfalfa hay were destroyed in the 1100-block of Amos Road just after 4pm on July 4th. The hay owned by Ritchie Tarn. Estimated damage placed at $7,500.

A discarded cigarette was the blame for a fire that damaged trees at the Bell Tree Farm in the 32-hundred block of E. Crawford just after 1pm on the 4th.

Two people were charged with illegal discharge of fireworks in the county. Vanessa Martinez was cited for fireworks in the 57-hundred block of W. Cloud.

Daniel Kieborz was cited for discharging fireworks in the 1600-block of W. Ottawa Road.

Most of the fires were small in nature and not all reports on the fires were available Thursday morning.
