Life changes and influences part of upcoming faculty exhibition at KWU

Themes of life influences and life changes run through the upcoming Faculty Exhibition at Kansas Wesleyan University.

Works by Lori Wright, Assistant Professor of Art, and Brad Anderson, Associate Professor of Art, will be on display from Monday (November 29, 2010) to December 17, 2010, in The Gallery, Sams Hall of Fine Arts. The Gallery is open to the public at no charge from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends by appointment. An exhibition reception is scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m. December 12, 2010, in The Gallery.

Additionally, two Gallery Talks will be held at noon on November 30, 2010, and December 7, 2010, in The Gallery in conjunction with the exhibition. Those attending are invited to bring a brown bag lunch to the informal discussion with the artists. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

The annual Faculty Exhibition will showcase the current year’s works by Wright and Anderson.

Anderson will be exhibiting landscape photography from an evening he spent capturing images of a storm coming over the prairie in Ottawa County back in June.

“This body of work was shot in less than an hour near sunset in early June in Ottawa County, Kansas. A storm was moving in, the wind was very strong and the sun was breaking through the rolling clouds,” Anderson said. “In addition to the energy of the evening, the pasture where I photographed had been burned, and the new spring grasses were rich and thick after recent rains. The combination of events made for a magical evening and a series of surreal shots. Some of the exposures are just under one second and others last for 15 seconds or more. Mystery, irony, and the overwhelming beauty of the prairie are constant influences in my life and work.”

Wright will be exhibiting a body of work from a variety of media dealing with her experiences of life changing events this past year. She will be exhibiting installations, drawings, paintings, sculptures, and prints all centered on the theme of change.

“This body of work is about the influence of change. This past year has brought many changes in my life. Every experience has offered new insight into my family, values and life. Emotions ran high and so did the ideas for my artwork,” Wright said.
