KU suspends long snapper for three games

LAWRENCE — KU junior long snapper Justin Carnes was suspended for three games following his arrest for operating a vehicle under the influence on early Saturday morning in Lawrence. Jayhawks football coach Charlie Weis said Carnes’ suspension was for a “violation of team rules.”
Carnes, a native of La Porte, Texas, was recently elevated from walk-on status and given a scholarship. He entered the season as the starting long snapper after serving in that role during field goals and extra points in 10 games last season. According to Douglas County sheriff’s records, Carnes was released on $500 bond.
KU running back James Sims was suspended three games after being arrested for the same charge in April. Sims entered into a one-year diversion agreement in May.
