Monday afternoon, the Salina City Commission voted to put to public vote the repealing of Ordinance No. 12-10639, which amended Chapter 13 of the Salina Code by adding “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” as classes protected from discrimination.
The vote will take place in the November General Election.
By a 3-2 vote, commissioners defeated a motion to have the commission repeal the amendment to Chapter 13 of the Salina Code.
The commission then voted 5-0 on both 1st and 2nd reading to call for the special election with the issue to be put before the voters in November.
When given the chance to offer comments, no one from the public came forward to speak.
