Week 2 of the high school football season had few surprises for NCAA League schools. The final scores and winners fell where most thought they might with one minor surprise. Southeast of Saline fell to Chapman by a score of 14-2. The Trojans were just never able to get their offense going, falling short of 100 yards of total offense.
Southeast of Saline (1-1) @ Whitewater-Remington (0-2)
The Trojans look to get back on track in another non-league contest. Look for some changes from SES offensively, as their defense has played well in the first two weeks.
Whitewater-Remington has lost big in both of their first games in the Heart of America League. The Broncos have been shut-out in weeks one and two versus Bennington and Ell-Saline.
Countdown to Kick-off brought to you by the Courtyard by Marriott in Salina begins at 6:30 today on 99KG Country and Salina Post.
LaCrosse (2-0) @ Minneapolis (2-0)
One of the marquee match-ups will feature Minneapolis hosting LaCrosse. The Lions are off to a strong start after defeating Washington County 7-0 last week, where the defense showed the way.
The Leopards will bring a challenge to Minneapolis. LaCrosse is off to a 2-0 start after defeating Hoisington 34-12. The Leopards are currently the #1 ranked team in the state and feature two major college prospects at running back.
The game can be heard on webcast on Salina Post.
Sacred Heart (2-0) @ Sedgwick (2-0)
Sacred Heart is off to a great start offensively. The Knights have scored 119 points in their first two games after defeating Republic County last week 77-6.
The Sedgwick Cardinals can also light up the scoreboard and are off to a 2-0 start as well. Sedgwick has scored 80 points in their first two games and beat Marion last week 45-6. It could be the defenses that show up tonight however, the two teams have given up a combined 25 points thus far.
Republic County (0-2) @ Ellsworth (1-1)
Ellsworth got the first win for new Head Coach Tyler Hampton. The Bearcats came from behind to defeat Russell last week 36-14. EHS trailed 14-6 at halftime and scored 30 unanswered points in the second half to secure the win.
Republic County continues to struggle after losing their home opener, 77-6 to Sacred Heart.
This game will be webcast on Salina Post.
Russell (0-2) @ Beloit (2-0)
The Beloit Trojans sent notice to the rest of the state last week by defeating Smith Center 54-0. You can bet it’s been a long time since the Redmen were on that side of a blow-out, and the Trojans are not looking to slow down this week. BHS will host a struggling Russell team that lost at home to Ellsworth after being outscored 30-0 in the second half.
