Salina Police issued nearly two dozen seat-belt violation tickets Monday night as part of a new grant program.
The new Night Seat-belt Enforcement program checking for persons not wearing seat-belts, looked for violations at three locations between 5:30 and 9:30pm.
Lt. Russ Lamer says that checks were made at an off ramp at Crawford and I-135, Saturn and 9th Streets, and the 2900 block of S. 9th.
Lamer says officers issued 22 seat-belt tickets, 1 child restraint violation ticket, 4 other types of citations, and made one arrest of a person on an outstanding warrant that was a passenger in a vehicle.
Lamer says the new check for seat-belt violations at night will take place 9 times during the year, with funding for officer overtime coming from the Kansas Department of Transportation who receive money from the federal government.
The next night seat-belt check will take place towards the end of December.
