There will be a “Salinans for East Iron Grocery Store” petition pledge rally Wednesday at 5:30 pm, (that’s tomorrow night) at the parking lot of the former grocery store at 511 E. Iron.
The petition drive will be conducted for two weeks, ending Feb 6th, and asks signers to help circulate petitions of support and pledge to patronize the store when shopping in the area. A Facebook page will be announced at the rally.
“A lot of people don’t have a grocery store in their neighborhood, so a replacement store in the area will help fill a critical need”, according to Jon Blanchard, one of the local organizers of the rally. “With community support, the Salina market is large enough to support a small to mid-size grocery store in that area”, said Greg Stephens.
Blanchard and Stephens attended the “Strengthening our Stores, Strengthening our Communities” Grocery Summit held in Manhattan last summer.
