On Friday evening just after 8pm a 14-year-old inmate, who had been confined at the center since January 25th for aggravated assault and battery, got into an argument with another inmate in their cell. Micah Lorenzano was taken out of the cell and began yelling and screaming and before he could be brought under control, damaged several items at the Juvenile Center including computers, computer monitors and keyboards, a TV, and tipped over both a washer and dryer.

The damage total is estimated at $5,747 dollars. Lorenzano faces charges of criminal damage to property, battery, and battery of a law enforcement officer.

Saturday morning just after 11:30am a 16-year-old inmate in the juvenile detention center, Justin Howard, jumped another inmate 17-year-old Justis Schnieder as they were going into the day room of the center. Howard beat Schneider with his fist before a corrections officer was able to pull him off. Howard then went around the officer and began hitting Schneider again before being pulled away.

Schneider was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for observation of head injuries. He was released to his family after dismissal from the hospital. He had been in the juvenile center on burglary and theft charges.

Howard who was booked into the center in November on charges of aggravated battery, will be charged with his second aggravated battery in the juvenile center. He was charged in an incident in December.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said Howard will either been transferred to another juvenile center or perhaps moved to the Saline County Jail to been charged as an adult .
