Icy roads early Wednesday morning to blame for four wrecks in central Kansas causing injuries and one fatality.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol the fatality occurred at 5:20am on a icy bridge 5 miles south of Minneapolis on U.S. 81. The dispatcher at the Kansas Highway Patrol said the victim was from out of state.
A pickup driven by 35 year Paul Sell of Salina lost control on icy bridge and struck a car and truck on U.S. 81 about 2 miles north of the K-18/U.S. 81 Junction. The crash occurred just after 6:30am. Sell was taken to Ottawa County Hospital for treatment of injuries. The other drivers 19 year old Haley Swenson of Clay Center and 35 year old Jeremiah Atkinson of Minneapolis were not injured.
Just before 7:30am 7 miles west of the I-70/I-135 a car with three residents of Mexico, the Driver was moving about 65 miles per hour and attempted to pass a vehicle. He lost control due to icy conditions, entered the median hitting a guard rail and rolled. All three inside the car were taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of injuries.
And around 8:30am a 32 year old semi driver from Georgia was injured when he lost control of his truck on an icy bridge on U.S. 81 about 3 miles south of Minneapolis and struck a guardrail. The driver was taken to Salina Regional Health Center.
